Library FAQ
1. What are the opening hours of the Library?
The Library is open from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. After hours access is available for students and staff of St Francis Theological College. The entrance code changes with each academic session.
Details of opening hours during vacations will be made available in the Library.
2. Where can I use my membership card?
Students enrolled at CSU can borrow from Trinity Theological College Library using their Roscoe Library membership cards.
3. Can I get access to other theological libraries?
You may also have access to other theological libraries in Brisbane, but you will need to apply for library membership to obtain full borrowing privileges. Please ask library staff for further details.
4. Can I obtain items not held by the library?
If you are a postgraduate student, member of faculty or sessional lecturer, we can obtain material not held by this library through the Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Service. Please see library staff for assistance.
5. How do I renew a loan?
To renew borrowed items online:
- Click the login link on the left-hand side of the catalogue screen.
- Enter the barcode number on your borrower's card as your login name [and press the enter key].
- Under the OPAC menu, select the Current Loans option.
- Tick the renewal boxes that appear next to your loans.
- Click the Renew selected items button.
6. How do I find items in the library?
Use the online catalogue first. The catalogue identifies items held by both the Roscoe and Trinity libraries. It is accessible both on and off-campus and contains most material likely to be on your Reading Lists. The Reading Lists for your units of study can be found by clicking on the Reading Lists link on the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and then selecting your subject from the list. The bibliography will be displayed.
7. What should I do if I can't find a book?
The catalogue will tell you if the item has been borrowed. It it's not on loan and not where it should be on the shelf, it might be on the reshelving trolley, in one of the study carrels or being used. If you still can't find the book, please notify the library staff.
8. Can I access electronic resources from my home or office computer?
The catalogue can be freely searched from any computer off-campus. Students enrolled at CSU can access electronic books and journal databases via their CSU log-in and password and/or their CSU student number and PIN.
9. How many items can I borrow?
Undergraduates, subscribed borrowers and Clergy/Lay ministers can borrow up to 12 items at any time for two weeks. Graduate Diploma Students and Sessional Staff can borrow up to 12 items at any time for four weeks. PhD/Masters/Honours students and Faculty can borrow up to 24 items for four weeks.
10. How do I use the subject field in the library catalogue?
The LOOKUP button beside the subject field in Advanced Search, can be used to view a list of subject headings. Alternatively you can use the Guided Search function to construct more complex searches. Remember though, that sometimes the fewer words used across the various fields, the better the results! Click on the 'Help" button for useful tips.
11. Can someone show me how to research a topic?
CSU students can find guidance and tutorials on researching assignments at this link: CSU - Subject Support. The Subject Areas are in alphabetical order - scroll down to Theology and click on this link. Library staff can also assist with any of these topics.
12. Can I use my laptop in the library?
Yes, wireless internet is available and there are powerpoints located at the base of the pillars in the study area of the library. Printing facilities are also available. You need to see Library staff to obtain a code for the photocopier/printer. This machine can also be used to scan and email material to yourself for free.
