Financial Assistance

There are many options for financial assustance while studying at St Francis College, including government assistance and scholarships for ministry formation students.

Students enrolled in undergraduate courses offered through CSU School of Theology may be eligible for assistance with tuition fees via the HECS program. Assistance with the tuition costs of postgraduate courses is available to eligible students through the FEE-HELP program.

The Kempthorne Bequest

John Knowles Kempthorne, member of the Cathedral congregation, left a range of assets to the College in his Will, the income from which is to be used to assist ministry formation students enrolled through St Francis Theological College.  Income from this bequest may take the form of one of the following:

  • fee relief
  • accommodation assistance
  • scholarships to enable full-time study
  • book allowance
  • support for the Roscoe Library
  • discretionary fund to assist with unforeseen circumstances

Canon Ivor Church Bequest

The late Rev'd Canon Ivor Church was Principal of St Francis Theological College from 1951 to 1981. His bequest to St Francis Theological College provides an encouragement award and assistance to postgraduate students wishing to study overseas. Distribution of income from this bequest is split        

  • 5% annual income as an Encouragement Award to 1st or 2nd year student of St Francis College
  • 95% of annual income as an annual bursary to a past student of St Francis to assist in postgraduate studies overseas (at the discretion of the Trustee from the recommendation of the Principal and College Council)

Vernon Cornish Memorial Fund

As a priest in the Church of God, Vernon served in the dioceses of Brisbane and Perth. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for the general benefit of the Anglican Church of Australia. In awarding scholarships

  • Preference will be given to both clergy and lay people who are resident in the Province of Queensland
  • Assistance will be provided to enable a person to undertake a course of study either in Australia or overseas.
  • the fund may also be used to promote theological education within the Province of Queensland

The John David Hughes Memorial Fund

Established by the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane, the John David Hughes Memorial Fund seeks to retain the memory of a loving and faithful priest and to support and encourage the ongoing training of students at St Francis Theological College. The Memorial Fund was established by the parishioners of St Paul's Stanthorpe back in 1991. Yearly interest from the Fund may be distributed  to students of St Francis Theological College annually. David was himself a student of St Francis Theological College.
